Firstly, you must know who your audience are, which can often be a little difficult. You might find that you have more than one type of audience, for example; age, gender, career, lifestyle and location.  Sometimes you will need to target different groups individually as their wants and needs can vary. You might find it easier to focus on one group at a time.

Next you will need to consider what you want your audience to buy, and think about what will draw them to your products or services. What’s different, and why should they choose your products and services over the thousands of competitors out there? Knowing what will appeal to your audience is a key part in advertising. 

There are many forms of advertisement available. Choosing the right form of advertisement is crucial to getting customers, getting it wrong could have a negative effect on your business. Depending on who your audience are will depend on what form of advertisement you will need, whether it’s posting an advert in a magazine, newspaper or website, advertising through social media, or through your blog.

Social listening will come in handy here, even more so if you are planning on advertising on social media. You will be able to learn what time of day the majority of your audience are active, and will therefore see your message.
